Speech and Language Therapy Intervention

Understanding your child’s communication is the first step toward meaningful support.

A speech and language therapy assessment helps to build a clear picture of your child’s communication strengths and challenges. Whether you’re looking for reassurance, exploring a diagnosis, or seeking tailored support, an assessment provides the insight needed to make informed next steps.

What We Assess

Depending on your concerns and your child’s age or needs, assessments may explore:

  • Receptive language (understanding of spoken language)
  • Expressive language (use of words, phrases, and sentences)
  • Speech sounds and clarity
  • Social communication and interaction
  • Play and early communication skills
  • Fluency and stammering
  • Attention and listening
  • Emotional regulation and communication strategies

Depending on your child’s needs, intervention could focus on:

  • Sessions are relaxed and child-led wherever possible
  • We use play, pictures, games and conversation to explore communication
  • We may ask you to complete a case history or questionnaire in advance
  • For school-aged children, we can liaise with school staff or observe in setting if needed
Assessments can take place:
  • At your home
  • In your child’s school or nursery (with consent)
  • Online (for some types of screening)
  • In-my clinic

After the Assessment

Depending on the type of assessment, you may receive:

  • A written report outlining strengths, areas of need, and tailored recommendations
  • Advice for home and/or school
  • Therapy goals or onward referral suggestions
  • Support with EHCP or Tribunal input if required

We’re happy to share findings with NHS therapists or education staff to ensure joined-up care.
